Most banks in India are now under a Core Banking set up. So transactions are ideally on real time basis and it seems possible. However, there are a number of dependent factors:

a) the cheque to be deposited should be in order in all respects

b) the person drawing the cheque should have sufficient funds in his account

c) in case of savings bank accounts, third party cheques are not permitted to be deposited

c) if the drawee bank is not on on-line basis, this may not be possible to do on the same day
